yourself for the 21st century or die! Some would rather die than change." Leonard Sweet, cultural historian. 06/02/2006 Entry: "The roots of postmodernism" Here's an excellent summary of how we got from there to here, philosophically speaking. One of the things I love about postmodernism is that it's impossible to define, for to define it would mean it isn't postmodern. This gives me the chance to view things through much more positive eyes than most others. Where many see chaos, I see order, only this kind of order is driven from the bottom. Premodernism: I believe, therefore I understand. And if experience brings about understanding, then shared experience is the elixir for many of our culture's ills. The longer I live and the more I view life from the other side of the tracks, the more convinced I am of the failures of modernism and its institutions. And when they write the history of the 21st century, the big and on-going story will be social unrest and -- unlike other times in history -- the ability of the people to organize and do something about it. Life isn't only for the haves; it's for everybody. ("He pleaded the cause of the poor and the afflicted. Then it was well with him. Is this not what it means to know Me, saith the Lord?" Jer 22.16)
